A registered, not-for-profit umbrella body
TAAN is registered as a not-for-profit organisation and is the umbrella association of more than 2,000 trekking agencies operating across Nepal. It was established in 1978 (2035 BS) and registered with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu.
Since then the association has added further registrations — with the Social Welfare Council, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and the tax authorities — as its mandate and membership have grown.

Executive committee
A 25-member elected committee, including 1 woman, 1 Dalit and 13 Janajati representatives, sets policy for a two-year term.
Full-time staff
7 secretariat staff (5 women, 2 men, including 3 Janajati) handle membership, administration and member services.
TIMS staff
4 dedicated staff (2 women, 2 men, including 1 Janajati) administer the Trekkers' Information Management System.
