Red Panda Eco-Trek

An eco-trek focused on Red Panda habitat, birdwatching, local culture and the cloud forests of eastern Nepal.

Highlights
  • Sites covered include Ilam, Dobato, Sandakpur, Jaubari and Fikkal. Accommodation consists of local hotels and homestays.
Itinerary

Day by day

  1. Day 01

    Fly to Bhadrapur/Biratnagar & drive to Ilam and stay overnight in Chiyabari Cottage, Ilam

  2. Day 02

    Drive to Dobato from Ilam; On the way, visit to the Red Panda Network Rug Weaving Center where local women have been trained to weave RPN Rugs and tea tasting in Jasbire Tea Factory. Overnight stay in a local homestay in Dobato, Ilam.

  3. Day 03-04

    Hike to Padma Sambhawa Community Forest and wait for the trackers to inform if they have sighted a red panda in the forest and if they did, then hike to the red panda site. Overnight stay in a local homestay in Dobato, Ilam.

  4. Day 05

    Trek to Kalapokhari, basecamp for the Sunrise view from Sandakpur; Later that day, momo-making workshop hosted by the owners of the homestay in Kalapokhari.

  5. Day 06

    Drive to Sandakpur for the sunrise view and view of the Kangchenjungha range. Drive to Jaubari Restoration Site from Kalapokhari and learning about the process and interaction with the members of the Jaubari Restoration Committee. Drive to Sunshine Villa, Fikkal and overnight stay there.

  6. Day 07

    Drive to Bhadrapur/Biratnagar & fly back to Kathmandu
